Eric thoughts were swirling as he flew to Bon Temps. All he could think about was Ana calling him a coward. Eric scoffs to himself, thinking of Ana's audacity to accuse him of being such.
I am no coward. The nerve of that woman!
He shook his head as he dropped down in front of her yard, staring at the house. If his heart could race, it'd be racing as fast as he could fly.
He took a step and stopped for a moment. He could smell Sookie's fear and continued towards her house. He took a step on the porch, making a squeaking sound. He listened as Sookie made a gasp, hearing her inching slowly towards the door. He could see her through the window.
"Hello, Sookie." Eric said. She let out a sigh of relief, opening the door. He noticed the gun in her hand and understood. "They came for you."
"Just one. I made a stop at Merlotte's to talk to Sam and I could sense him hiding in the trees. He ran off before I could read his mind." Sookie explained. "That why you're here?" Eric gave her a look.
"I lied to you, Sookie." He whispered. Sookie paused, opened her mouth, but no words came out. She wanted to get mad, to scream, to yell at him, but decided to stay silent and hear him out. He obviously regretted lying to her. What did he lie to her about?
"I think we should sit down. This is a long story and dates back during WWII, when Godric and I were searching for the man who murdered my entire family a thousand years ago." Sookie was shocked.
Someone murdered his family?
WWII - Augsburg, Germany 1945
Godric and Eric approached a cabin that appeared to be abandoned. Eric scanned the area, sniffing the air. His fangs came down because he could smell a werewolf was on the premises. Godric continued toward the cabin cautiously, remaining alert and searching for anymore intruders. They entered the home, finding two dead bodies with their throats ripped out.
Godric could hear two people in the distance approaching the cabin; one from the front, the other in the back. He gave Eric a look, who nodded back at him. They levitated up to the ceiling, staying hidden in the shadows where they could not be seen.
They could hear the wolf in the back enter into the cabin, and knew it was a female. Eric gave Godric a look. "Det är här, Godric. Jag känner det (It's here, Godric. I feel it)." He said in his native tongue, eager to spring into action. Godric stopped him though, wanting to see what happens next.
"Vänta, Eric (Wait, Eric)." They watched from their place as an American soldier walked in with his rifle. He looked around, noticing the two dead bodies in the middle of the room. He looked to his left suddenly hearing a sound in one of the rooms. He approached the door, opening it slowly and saw it was naked female, hunched in the corner.
"Hilf mir. Bitte hilf mir (Help me. Please, help me)." She pleads to the soldier in German. The soldier placed his rifle down, holding his hand up in a sign of surrender.
"It's gonna be alright. I won't hurt you." He takes off his jacket, slowly approaching the woman about to use his jacket to cover her. The woman growled, her eyes turning amber she instantly changes into her wolf form lunging for the soldier. She tears into his chest, ripping out chunks and chewing them. Eric and Godric drops their fangs ready to attack the mongrel. They drop down from the ceiling hissing at the wolf. The wolf gets ready to lunge straight at Eric, making Godric race over to the soldier's gun and plunging the barrel into her gut, sticking her to the wall.
She screams in agony. "Wir sind auf der gleichen Seite, ihr Narren (We're on the same side, you fools)!" Eric slowly approached her, holding a knife up in his hands; he takes the tip trailing it on her skin, moving her hair to the side. His eyes blazes with fury as he stares at her.
"Nein, das sind wir nicht (No. No, we're not)." He growls, speaking in German. He takes the knife and stabs it into her arm. She screams again. "Wer ist dein Herr (Who is your master)?!" The female screams louder as he stabs her other arm and twists the knife.
"WER IST DEIN HERR (WHO IS YOUR MASTER)?!" Godric stands off to the side watching the scene with silence. He already knew what she was going to say.
"Gib mir dein Blut und ich werde es dir sagen (Give me your blood and I will tell you)." She purrs with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Godric takes a step forward, feeling his emotions; already knowing his child was desperate enough to give away his blood for information.
"Eric, das Blut ist heilig (Eric, the blood is sacred)." He said, calmly. Eric took a moment, then decided. He bit into his wrist, not seeing she was smirking at him. Disappointment filled Godric. He raised his wrist to her mouth, where she greedily sucks the blood from his wrist, moaning and snarling. She laughs at him.
"Er ist einer von euch (He is one of you)." She says, with menacing grin. Eric looks at her, shocked at this information. Godric remains calm and still. The she-wolf suddenly rips herself from the wall, lunging at Eric, ending on top of him straddling his waist. She takes the knife from the ground raising it in the air, ready to stake him; Godric suddenly appears behind her, snapping her neck. She falls to the ground, dead.
Eric sat still on the ground, looking up at Godric. "En vampyr är aldrig emot sina känslor. Han dominerar dem (A vampire is never at the mercy of his emotions. He dominates them)." Godric reminds him. Eric blinks, then rises off the ground. He looks down at the floor, disappointed that they were nowhere near closer to finding the man that slaughtered his family. Godric notices his change in mood, reassuring him, "Vi hittar honom, Eric. Ha tålamod (We will find him, Eric. Have patience)." Eric looks up, nodding his head.
Sookie looked at Eric with awe. "You and Godric were in S.S?" she asked.
"We posed as whatever could help us in our search." Eric replies.
"You were hunting the Nazi werewolves." She said as a statement then a question.
"The symbol you showed me is Runic. This uh…pack dates farther back than the Nazi party." Eric pauses, looking out into woods for intruders.
"They aren't Nazis?" She was confused by this.
"No. They're much more than that." Eric pauses. "These are no ordinary werewolves. They're organized, well-funded, highly trained…and fueled by vampire blood." He says with a hiss. His hatred for wolves were clear as day to Sookie…what she didn't know was his hatred was more personal than some kind of species pissing contest. Her heart broke for him; she knew how it felt to lose someone very important to you. She grabbed his hand giving it a squeeze. Eric looked her in the eyes, squeezing her hand back.
"Why didn't you tell me this last night, Eric?" She really wanted to know. It's not like him at all to just share his past with someone…least of all with a human. What made him come forward with this information?
"The bigger question is why am I risking everything to tell you now? My loyalty is not to Bill or even Ana." Eric sighs, something he doesn't do very often. "In fact, it would detrimental to me in numerous ways if you were never found. But…" he trailed off. He wanted to tell her how he felt, but did not have the right words to do so.
"But?" She asked softly. He looks away from her, attempting to hide his emotions from her. Unlike everyone else, she could stare straight into his eyes and know exactly what he was feeling. She was astute like that.
"But, if the King of Mississippi has Bill, then he'll for sure be coming for you and I…owe you."
"You also said you were risking everything by telling me…what did you mean by that?"
"The goal tonight was to convince you to stay out of danger, not put you in more of it." He got up, needing to move around, he stopped, moving to stand in front of her. Sookie looks up to him, waiting for him to say more.
Then he kneels down, looking her in the eyes. It's now or never. "I'm telling you all this because I care about you, Sookie. If anything were to happen to you…I don't know what I'd do. After Dallas, you have proven to me that you can be trusted…that's no easy feat for someone of my age." Sookie looks at him in shock, not expecting that at all. "Ana is practically sending you into the wolf's den and I don't know if she's sending someone along to protect you…" He was interrupted by the sound of his cell phone ringing. He cursed under his breath, looking at the phone and not recognizing the number.
"Northman." He said coldly. He was just about say how he felt about her, until he was interrupted. Another time, then.
"Is Sookie with you?" Ana asked, without greeting. Eric rolls his eyes at her, knowing damn well she was considering she just challenged him to admit his feelings to his little telepath.
"Yes." He gritted. Ana laughs at his tone, knowing she just interrupted something. It was sad too, she just sent him to her to make his confession, now that had to wait because something has come up; she had to send Sookie to Mississippi as soon as possible.
"Good. Put me on speaker phone, I need her to hear this." Eric did as she asked. "Miss Stackhouse, I need you to be in Mississippi by tomorrow night. I have a spy in Edgington's court and he has sent Franklin Mott to retrieve you." Ana stops, hearing Sookie's gasp, and
"Fuck!" Eric hisses.
"I take it you know him, Eric?"
"I know him enough to not mourn his future death." Eric promised. Since Edgington decided to send that psychotic motherfucker after
Sookie, he was going to have to take care of him personally; not before he questioned him though.
"Alright Ms. Stackhouse, this is the plan, I'm sending you into Mississippi tomorrow afternoon. You should make it there by nightfall. In the morning, you'll meet a friend of mine who will be protecting you on your search. Tray Dawson; he's werewolf and isn't associated with any pack. He's one of the best bodyguards I have available who can get to you on such short notice." Sookie didn't like the idea that they were giving her a babysitter.
"I can take care of myself. I don't need someone to…" Ana interrupted her, already knowing what she was going to say.
"This is not negotiable, Ms. Stackhouse. I don't care if you believe you can protect yourself. You have absolutely no idea what you're up against, so I suggest you swallow your pride and do as I tell you to." Sookie shut her mouth, swallowing her burst of anger; especially knowing she was right. Did she really know what she was getting herself into? Sookie swallowed.
"Alright, fine." She said shakily. Eric relaxed some. He knew of Dawson's reputation, so he knew Sookie was in good hands and that was a lot coming from Eric; given his history with the clan of werewolves that murdered his family. If Ana was planning on sending Sookie into Mississippi to search for Bill, then she needed to be prepared, and someone to protect her since Eric can't join her right away. Werewolves are practically native to that state, and in the King's pocket. If what Ana said was true, she was going to need all the help she can get.
"Dawson will accompany you to the Were bar, and you can start your search there. If you get caught by one of Edgington's men, do
nothing, and say nothing. Dawson will know exactly what to do." Sookie nodded her head. "Eric, after you are done there, I need you to meet up with me so we can come up with a game plan to deal with Sophie Ann."
Anger filled Eric again, he almost forgot about that. "You have a plan for that I assume?" He says with barely contained anger.
"Yes, I do. We can kill two birds with one stone. We'll be in touch." She hangs up the phone, Sookie was anxious about tomorrow, while Eric was still quietly fuming. She laid her eyes on Eric, placing her hand on his, getting his attention. He turns his head, his eyes softening, presently forgetting about their recent troubles.
"What were you going to say before we were interrupted?" Sookie asks softly.
"Sookie, I…" He stopped, caution filling him. He could smell an intruder inside her house. His head turned towards her house at vampire speed, then he suddenly had Sookie up against the wall, their faces inches apart.
"Invite me in." He says.
"You can't just demand your way in…" His fangs popped out.
"Invite me in, now!" He growled.
"Mr. Northman, will you please come in?" She whispers. Fear filled her, if he was demanding entry into her home, then something was very wrong. Eric sped into her house, spotting the Were who appeared from the shadows snarling at Eric. His ears were drawn back, baring his fangs with menace. Eric grinned madly, his fangs on display. He growled, crouching in a defensive stance ready to take on the mongrel.
Then the wolf pounced.
